WAYNE'S HERE!
Visit former Pele bassist Wayne Morgan's Myspace page at
www.myspace.com/waynemorganproject: "I
loved being in Pele and we should of been gigantic, but yet again the
power of the record company managed to balls all that up". |
| THE LEGEND LIVES ON
On November 12, 2004, Fireworks was chosen by Phill Jupitus as his
debut album of the day. Hear his comments
about the band, |
|
| NUMBER ONE
Pele have
had a Number One single! Megalomania hit the top
spot in South Africa. |
|
| ROCK'N'ROLL Pele were
arrested in Glasgow for throwing a television out of a
hotel window. |
|
| AUNTIE'S A FAN
In 1994,
BBC Sport used Fat Black Heart when showing a
montage of some highlights of a test match. |
|
| UNSTOPPABLE
From Fruitbat (Carter USM): "I
do indeed remember Pele, I got into trouble with them for
being unkind about their first single on Radio 1's round
table. They all came up to me at an Inspirals gig and
gave me a hard time. It all ended amicably though and
after seeing them live I changed my mind about them." |
|
| IN SESSION
Pele recorded a session for Mark Goodier's Evening Session on Radio 1
at Maida Vale on 3 August 1991. The entry (from a book called In
Session Tonight by Ken Garner) for Pele is pictured opposite - they're
nested inbetween the infamous Bob Pegg & Nick Strutt and rock
icons Pendragon. The tracks they recorded were Megalomania, Raid The
Palace, Name And Number and Time Is
Money. It was broadcast on 12 August.

|
| EUROPE
After the
demise of A&M records, Pele got some
sort of a distribution deal through Netherlands based
company Dureco. They re-printed copies
of the Sport of Kings with a different catalogue number
and ever-so slightly different cover. |
|
| COMMON PEOPLE From a
flier for an Amsterdam L2 gig: "Give
Ian Prowse half an hour of your time and he'll tell you
horror stories of how his working class credibility was
destroyed by the revelation that his father was a
freemason and how Tony Benn once sang one of their songs
to Tony Blair in the corridors of power." |
|
| HOLLYOAKS You may
have spotted Dally acting in Hollyoaks on television. It
anyone knows which character he played (even if it was a
small part) then please let us know! |
|
| CHANGING T-SHIRTS Did anyone
see the behind the scenes Changing Rooms documentary in
early June 1999? Another long-lost Peleperson was flying
the flag by wearing his Pele T-shirt on the programme! He
was one of the production crew, and wore the T-shirt
design like Billy Bragg wore at the Phoenix in 1994. |
|
| LOUGHBORO What is
it about Loughborough and Pele? Ian says "I don't
know - they just go potty there!". Expect
Loughborough to become one of Amsterdam's favourite
haunts! |
|
| BILL & BEN Nico
wrote the 2002 Bill and Ben hit for BBC Worldwide. Apparently she has written five tracks for an
album, and is now published by the new Ministry of Sound label and working on some dance stuff. |
